Detail
This is an example of a detailed photo because it is taken up close and not far away. Also because you can see specific details in this part of the building very easily aside from far away.

Patterns
This is an example of patterns in an architecture because lines in repetition is obvious. Its a simple photo which makes the patterns stand out more clearly.

Light

This is an example of a photo with natural light because there is obviously sunlight shining onto this part of the building. Another way you can easily tell is by the darkness of the photo.

shape
This is a good example of a shape photo because the building in the photo is not a box shaped building like you normally see. It is also taken from a good angle to get a better perspective of the shape.

surrounding
This photo is an example of a surrounding shot because the main building can easily be seen as the subject and then you look at the background of the photo which you can tell that this building is in the city somewhere.

Africa

My favorite photo was the one with the male lion and the female lion had their head's together. It's my favorite photo, because they look in love and that's really nice for nature to experience as well.
A. The Author uses a Pentax 67II with two fixed lenses
B. Brandt doesnt use telephoto lenses since he believes that being close to the animals makes a really big impact in his ability to reveal their personality.
C. He hopes to understand nature a little more and for the people viewing his pictures, reading in between the lines of a photo.
D. "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us. To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes.

Japanese Earthquake

This photo puts me in awe, its crazy to see such a thing. it looks very destructive and scary to be near. The composition that is being used in this photo is lines. Lines create a sort of formation of waves coming up in the ocean. He used the technique of shooting from top view.

This photo is crazy seeing how this half of the road got separated by its other half.  The composition this photographer used  was leading lines the lines in the road leading to the other workers and their attempt to reconstruct.

This photo is pretty interesting,  the composition used is repition. on all the cars next to each other and all sort of the same color , and funny how there is only two cars thar are colored and the rest are white.
This is my favorite advertising ad because its really unique. I like the design that AT&T though of. I think with this advertising it would encourage me to buy a phone. It convinces people that they have the best coverage no matter where you are.

Touching People

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?
I think this project is great some really good and interesting photos. The essay was something different but i liked it a lot.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?
I'd be a little hesitant. But if it was for a good cause and an interesting project i could easily say that I'd do it.

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.
An unusual photo shoot similar to this one,  would be shooting little children, with adults, but at different places or people of different cultures.
4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, did the photographer think about the rules of photography that you know about? What types of photos did he take? Photos of the environment were taken and there were good rules that were looked at like the leading lines and the position that the photo was taken from.

Magazine Cover and Catch up

1st. Pile: Rechi (ukranian for "Things")

The things that are similar are none of them have people just objects.
Comparisons include the different styled covers and different subjects.
We put these magazines covers here because none of them went along with the other catergories.
Most are effective at showing a piece of what's inside the magazine, except a few oare plain and don't advertise the magazine.
Magazine names: The Day that changed America, Popular Photography, Silver Shotz, Home and Garden, Austin Monthly Home, Burnt Orange, Journalism Education, Smithsoian, Texas Monthly.

2. Informal and Formal Portraits
Characteristics: Covers that featured people doing a photoshoot  with a simple background to make them the main focus of the cover.
Similar: Most of them only have one person on the cover with a plain background.
Different: They're different people; different topics.
Why: They all are same types of portraits of well-known people.
Effective: they all are effective because they attract attention and give you a little insight to what that person is all about.

Journalism Education Today

Teen Vogue

The Brown Pages Magazine

Cosmopolitan

3.Environmental Portraits
Characteristics: They all show people doing what the magazine is advertising and they represent what's on the cover. They show people in real situations instead of in a photo shoot.
Similar: They all have people, not things, on the cover showing what they do in real life.
Different: Everyone is doing something different, none of them are on the cover doing the same thing.
Why: We put these here because none of them are in a photo shoot, but they are all environmental portraits.
Effective: All of these are effective because they advertise what that person is famous for and it shows them doing their thing, not in a building somewhere with a plain background. It shows the real person doing their own thing.

4. Animals
The things that are similar are that they each contain a portrait of an animal.
The things that are different, that most animals are taken in their environmental world, and one is just taken as a portrait.
We put these magazines here because they all have a picture of an animal.
These are effective magazine covers becuase they all grab the viewers attention.
Magazine Covers Name: National Geographic, Photgraphy And Design, Smithsonian.

Happy, Akins, Building- publish your photos

Happy
This picture means happy to me because nice looking Ms. Simmons is smiling and looks like she enjoys what she does. This picture is good because its zoomed in and you can automatically tell Ms. Simmons is our subject. The photo is acceptable because it is in good focus and the colors are not dull like the original looks, this one is brighter and stands out better.

Akins

I chose this picture to mean Akins because every time I think of my school this vision pops in my head. This picture is good because the colors are well and the front of the building fit right into what was required. The only thing I would have done differently was to take the picture more in front of the building so whoever is looking at this picture could see the full "W. Charles Akins High School"

Buliding

This was a good picture to put in the building folder because in this photo you can see two groups of what looks like athletes doing drills and just working together to BUILD a better team. The people in this photo really stand out a lot better than the original from adjusting the levels and everything just stands out better.

Cover Types
1. Early magazine covers- photo is hard to see, a title but not much text
2. The poster cover- consists of a picture filling the frame of the magazine and only a title and small words on the bottom corner. disadvantage: has to be VERY appealing to the readers eyes.
3. Pictures married to type- less color and text than the forest of words, text is usually on one side, text is involved in the photo, as many entry points
4. In the forest of words- lots of words, different fonts, subjects, colors, sizes all over the place framing the subject.  disadvantage: distracting and hard to see the full subject

stuff that should be on my magazine cover:
Title
photo
Barcode
Price

Portrait and self portrait tips and ideas

Get Closer
The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impact. Even when it is big enough to be decipherable, it usually carries little meaning. Viewers can sense when a subject is small because it was supposed to be and when it's small because the photographer was too shy to get close.
Don't be shy. If you approach people in the right way, they'll usually be happy to have their picture made. It's up to you to break the ice and get them to cooperate. Joke around with them. Tell them why you want to make the picture. Practice with people you know so that you are comfortable; people can sense when you aren't.

The Casual Portrait
Wherever you are with your camera, always be on the lookout for those moments when a person's character shines though. If you have a formal portrait session with someone, make some frames of him while he straightens his tie or while she brushes her hair before the formal sitting. Walk back to the car with her and shoot her on the street. If you are on a spring picnic with the family, look for that moment of bliss when your wife leans back, sated, to enjoy the caress of the warm sun. If you're on the street, look for the impatient expression on a pedestrian's face as he waits for the light to change. Always be on the lookout for the telling moment. Every person has a story, and every picture should tell part of that story.

Hands and Other Details
The hands of a farmer, a pianist, a baker. The feet of a ballet dancer, a long distance runner, a place kicker. The belly of a pregnant woman, the bicep of a weight lifter. Hair caressing a pillow, fingers clutched in prayer, a peering eye. The details of the human body make great photographic subjects, either as expressions of ideas or emotions, as graphic shots, or as a way to say something about an individual. Whenever you are photographing someone, try to think of details of their body or dress that would get your message across in an indirect way.
Are there particular parts of their body or items of what they wear that are important to what they do for a living or a hobby? Does some part of them really stand out? Can you find a way to abstract what you want to say about the person by using one of these elements?
The point is to use your eyes and your imagination, whether you want to use detail and abstraction to say something about an individual or about the beauty of the human body. If you are making photographs of details of the human body, you will be working intimately with people and will have to direct them, tell them where to pose, and how.

I really like this picture for many reasons. First thing that caught my eye had to be that this guy seems to be by himself and the kind of mood it looks like he is in, looks like he is trying to sit back and relax to thing about the things that are going on in life right now, or he might be waiting on someone by looking at the silver ware and the extra cup sitting across from him. What else caught my eye? The row of repeating booths and tables that follow the man. I really like how the camera has all focus on him and how its such a simple photo.

I really liked this picture also mainly because of how fascinating the sky looks and the nice color of the cranberries in the photo. I like how the photo has a distance. This photo is also plain but interesting. Also the man looks like he is pretty satisfied with what he does, it inspires me to find a career that I enjoy when I get older.

This is my favorite casual portrait (so far).

Welcome Back

I really liked this photo for a few reasons. I like wildlife like the picture shown above and also because this picture tells a little about whats going on if you noticed the lion, the giraffe looks like its running and the lion is creeping up on it.

I found this photo very interesting.  I've never seen anything like this and when I look at it i cant look away because its so amazing while scary.

I really liked this picture because I'm fascinated by the sky.  There are a million stars out and the sky is clear of clouds which makes the photo so amazing.  you can also see that theres a little pond from the reflection of the sky in it which is pretty cool.

Best song: Somewhere With You: Kenny Chesney

This song really caught my attention, I'm really into many many types of music but country is my favorite. I like this song because it has a different tune than usual country songs. I also like the lyrics. The song is about these two people going their separate ways but he'd rather be with her than anywhere else.

Best movie: Easy A
I really enjoy movies that are based on teenagers, especially funny movies. This movie is both of those thing, its a funny movie about a high school girl and rumors. Its funny because the way rumors spread in the movie is how they spread in reality and it just made me laugh because that is how high school really is.

Something that i will remember from this break is that i worked soooo much and had such busy days. it was crazy.

My resolutions for this year: lose 10-15 pounds, try harder in AP english 3 and physics, also to get my gpa up really high for the end of my junior year, save up money to put down on a car for me, get my license, train my puppy, and so on...

This year I will be looking forward to this summer because I might be going to New York once again, also it will be my senior year, whats not exciting about that. Even though its scary, I'm looking forward to start applying to colleges also.
